Exemptions
(1)
Undocumented vessels used exclusively for racing shall be exempt from the numbering and title requirements of ORS 830.770 (Certificate of number required on boat) and 830.810 (Certificate of title).(2)
The provisions of ORS 830.220 (Fire extinguishers) and 830.230 (Sound signaling devices) shall not apply to motorboats propelled by outboard motors while competing in any race previously arranged and announced or, if such boats be designed and intended solely for racing, while engaged in such navigation as is incidental to the tuning up of the boats and engines for the race.(3)
Boats classified as “University or College” racing shells which compete in intercollegiate crew races shall be exempt from the requirements of carrying life-saving devices.(4)
The Lightship Columbia shall be exempt from the numbering and titling requirements of ORS Chapter 830 (Small Watercraft).(5)
Federally documented commercial vessels are exempt from the numbering and title requirements of ORS 830.705 (Applicability of numbering, title and license requirements), 830.710 (Report of transfer, abandonment or destruction of boat, boathouse or floating home or change of address of owner), 830.770 (Certificate of number required on boat), 830.780 (Identifying number on forward half of boat), 830.785 (Application for boat number), 830.795 (Issuance of certificate of number and validation stickers) to 830.805 (Application by owner having number awarded by federal government or another state) and 830.830 (Dealer or boat manufacturer number) to 830.870 (Duplicate certificate of title).
