Purpose of the Rules

The Department of Consumer and Business Services is required by ORS 25.785 (Issuing entities to require Social Security number) to record an applicant’s social security number in order to issue or renew an occupational, professional, recreational or driver license, certification, permit or registration subject to suspension under 25.750 (Suspension of licenses, certificates, permits and registrations) to 25.783 (Confidentiality of information). The purpose of these rules is to establish requirements and procedures for requiring the applicant to provide a social security number and requirements for applicants who have not been issued a social security number by the United States Social Security Administration.
