Policy and Goals


(1)

The health insurance plans of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) are established and shall be administered as provided in ORS 238.410 (Board may contract for insurance for retirees), 238.415 (Payment toward cost of pre-Medicare insurance), 238.420 (Payment toward cost of Medicare supplemental insurance) and 238A.050 (Oregon Public Service Retirement Plan part of Public Employees Retirement System). The Public Employees Retirement Board (Board) may enter into one or more contracts with health insurance carriers licensed to do business in the State of Oregon, or certified in another state that is operating under the laws of that state, to obtain health insurance coverage for eligible retirees, and their spouses or dependents.

Benefits shall be provided under the Board’s health insurance programs for eligible persons through retiree contributions and any other available funding to cover the Board’s costs of health care coverage and administration under insurance contract between the Board and insurance carriers.
