Classification of Vehicles for Purposes of Registration Fees


DMV will use definitions found in the Oregon Vehicle Code to determine classifications for the purposes of imposing vehicle registration fees found in ORS 803.420 (Registration fees). DMV will use the following definitions for the types of vehicles listed below, as no definition exists in the Oregon Vehicle Code:

(1)

A “passenger vehicle” means a car, pick-up, van, SUV or other motor vehicle, designed and used to transport people, with a combined weight of 8,000 pounds or less, and not otherwise provided for in ORS 803.420 (Registration fees) or ORS 821.320 (Snowmobile registration and permit fees).

(2)

A “utility or light trailer” means any trailer having a loaded weight of 8,000 pounds or less, except trailers for hire or rent, travel trailers, special use trailers and fixed loads.
