Days of Travel and Peak Traffic Hour Restrictions


(1)

The combinations of vehicles described in rule 734-078-0015 (Types of Vehicle Combinations Authorized), which when loaded exceed 105 feet overall length, are prohibited from operation:

(a)

Unless otherwise specified in this section, during any hours on observed holidays, movement shall be prohibited after 2:00 p.m. on the last business day preceding the observed holiday through sunrise of the first business day following the observed holiday. The holidays to which this restriction applies are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Christmas Day;

(b)

From noon on Wednesday preceding Thanksgiving Day until sunrise on Monday following Thanksgiving Day; and

(c)

During daylight hours Saturday afternoons and Sundays after Memorial Day and before Labor Day.

(2)

When operating on the Interstate Highway System, movement is authorized during the hours between sunset and sunrise, except on holidays, as indicated in section (1) of this rule, provided that:

(a)

Intermediate side marker lights as described in ORS Chapter 816 (Vehicle Equipment: Lights) are placed on each side at intervals of not more than 20 feet between the tail lights of the towing vehicle and the tail lights of the trailer; and

(b)

Projections beyond rear of motor vehicles. Motor vehicles transporting loads which extend more than four feet beyond the rear of the motor vehicle, or which have tailboards or tailgates extending more than four feet beyond the body, shall have projections marked as follows:

(A)

On each side of the projecting load, one red lamp, visible from the side, located so as to indicate maximum overhang; and

(B)

On the rear of the projecting load, two red lamps, visible from the rear, one at each side, and two red reflectors visible from the rear, one at each side, located so as to indicate maximum width.

(3)

The Oregon Department of Transportation, Motor Carrier Transportation Division may impose additional regulations pertaining to days and hours of operation for the transportation of logs, poles and piling. Permittees should determine the existence of any such regulations.
