Replacement and Duplicate Registration Plates


(1)

For the purpose of this rule the following definitions apply:

(a)

“Replacement plate(s)” means the registered plate(s) issued to a vehicle, as provided in ORS 803.530 (Period of validity), and has a different number or letter sequence than the plate(s) last assigned to that vehicle.

(b)

“Duplicate plate(s)” means the registration plate(s) issued to a vehicle, as provided in ORS 803.530 (Period of validity), and has the same number or letter sequence as the plate(s) last assigned to the vehicle.

(2)

The vehicle owner may make application to the Driver and Motor Vehicle Services Division of the Department of Transportation (DMV) for replacement or duplicate plates.

(3)

To obtain replacement or duplicate plates the vehicle owner must make application to DMV and:

(a)

Pay the replacement or duplicate plate fee as provided in ORS 803.575 (Fees for cards, plates and stickers);

(b)

Pay the plate manufacturing fee when required under ORS 803.570 (Plate manufacturing fee) and as provided in OAR 735-032-0010 (Registration Plate Fees); and

(c)

Meet any other applicable requirements for the title and registration of the vehicle.
(4) DMV will determine whether the plates issued are required to be issued as duplicate plates or replacement plates. In most cases, DMV will issue replacement plates.
