Sturgeon Season

The 2021 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations provide requirements for the Columbia River Zone and the Snake River Zone. However, additional regulations may be adopted in this rule division from time to time, and, to the extent of any inconsistency, they supersede the 2021 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations.
(1) Effective January 5, 2021, retention of white sturgeon is prohibited in The Dalles Pool of the Columbia River.
(2) Effective January 8, 2021, retention of white sturgeon is prohibited in Bonneville Pool of the Columbia River.
(3) Effective March 19, 2021, retention of white sturgeon is prohibited in John Day Pool of the Columbia River, and adjacent tributaries.
(4) In the mainstem Columbia River from the mouth at Bouy 10 upstream to Wauna powerlines (river mile 40), retention of white sturgeon is allowed as follows:
(a) Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays weekly from May 10 through June 5, 2021; and
(b) On days open to sturgeon retention, all angling for sturgeon (including catch and release) is prohibited after 2:00 p.m.
(5) In the mainstem Columbia River from the Wauna Powerlines (river mile 40) upstream to Bonneville Dam, retention of white sturgeon is allowed on Saturday September 11 and Saturday September 18, 2021.
(6) The white sturgeon legal size slot for the fisheries decribed in sub-sections (4) and (5) above is from 44 to 50 inches fork length.
(7) Fork length is measured in a straight line from the tip of the nose to the fork in the caudal fin (tail) with the fish laying on its side on a flat surface, with the tape measure or ruler positioned flat under the fish.
(8) When open for retention, the daily bag limit is one per day, and two per year statewide.
(9) All other permanent rules for the Columbia River Zone, as stated in the 2021 Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, remain in effect.
