Piping
(1)
Pool recirculation piping shall be sized to carry the following maximum design flows:(a)
Discharge piping (except copper) — 10ft./sec. (3m/sec.);(b)
Discharge piping (copper) — 8 ft./sec. (2.4m/sec.);(c)
Suction velocity — 6 ft./sec. (1.8m/sec.).(2)
Pool recirculation piping, if plastic, shall comply with National Sanitation Foundation Standard #14 for Plastic Materials, Pipe, Fittings and Appurtenances for Portable Water and Waste Water.(3)
All pool recirculation piping shall be rated and capable of withstanding four times the maximum operating pressure at maximum water temperatures.(4)
Provisions shall be made to de-water all recirculation piping and equipment.(5)
Pool backwash and/or drain lines shall be permanently piped with an air-break. For all pools built after May 1, 1986, the pool backwash and/or drain line shall be permanently piped with an air gap to discharge into an approved sewerage system.
