Standards for Screening Services


(1)

“Physical therapy screening” means:

(a)

The process of determining whether a person or animal would benefit from a physical therapy evaluation or referral to another health care professional; and
(b) The process of determining whether a current patient has a new or separate condition that can be addressed by physical therapy treatment or intervention.

(2)

A physical therapist or physical therapist assistant may conduct or perform a physical therapy screening of a person who is not currently a physical therapy patient.
(3) Only a physical therapist may conduct or perform a physical therapy screening of a current patient.

(4)

A physical therapist or physical therapist assistant shall not delegate the performance of a physical therapy screening to an aide.

(5)

A screening is not a physical therapy treatment or intervention and does not require or involve performance of an initial evaluation, preparation of a plan of care, or creation of a patient treatment record.
