Purpose and Scope

(1)

The rules in this division establish radiation safety requirements for persons using sources of radiation for well logging operations including mineral logging, radioactive markers and subsurface tracer studies. The requirements of this division are in addition to, and not in substitution for, the requirements of divisions 100, 102, 111 and 120 of these rules.

(2)

The rules in this division apply to all licensees or registrants who use sources of radiation for well logging operations including mineral logging, radioactive markers or subsurface tracer studies.

(3)

The requirements set out in this division do not apply to the issuance of a license authorizing the use of licensed material in tracer studies involving multiple wells, such as field flooding studies, or to the use of sealed sources auxiliary to well logging but not lowered into wells.
