Precautionary Procedures in Logging and Subsurface Tracer Studies: Energy Compensation Source

The licensee may use an Energy Compensation Source (ECS) which is contained within a logging tool, or other tool components, only if the ECS contains quantities of licensed material not exceeding 3.7 MBq (100 microcuries).

For well logging applications with a surface casing for protecting fresh water aquifers, use of the ECS is only subject to the requirements of 333-113-0120 (Equipment Control: Leak Testing of Sealed Sources), 333-113-0125 (Equipment Control: Physical Inventory) and 333-113-0130 (Equipment Control: Utilization Records).

For well logging applications without a surface casing for protecting fresh water aquifers, use of the ECS is only subject to the requirements of 333-113-0010 (Agreement With Well Owner of Operator), 333-113-0120 (Equipment Control: Leak Testing of Sealed Sources), 333-113-0125 (Equipment Control: Physical Inventory), 333-113-0130 (Equipment Control: Utilization Records), 333-113-0150 (Equipment Control: Use of a Sealed Source in a Well without a Surface Casing) and 333-113-0501 (Notification of Incidents, Abandonment and Lost Sources).
