Exclusive Use of Term “University”


Effective January 13, 2015. The term “university” refers exclusively to a school that is authorized to offer bachelor’s degrees together with graduate or first professional degrees, or to an organization that constitutes a formal consortium of schools so authorized. Any entity that calls itself “university” without authorization but with serious intent will be referred to the Department of Justice for enforcement under ORS 646. 605 to 646.652 (District attorney’s reports to Attorney General), Oregon’s Unlawful Trade Practices Act.
